In person at assigned school site(s) About the Role Digital Dreamers STEAM Academy is seeking a creative, energetic, and dependable After-School STEAM Instructor to lead engaging, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) enrichment classes across multiple Bay Area school sites. Students will explore STEAM concepts through science experiments, engineering challenges, building activities, maker projects, creative design, and collaborative problem-solving. Rather than simply following instructions, students are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, design solutions, build, experiment, test, troubleshoot, and improve their ideas. This position is a great fit for educators, college students, recent graduates, STEM/STEAM instructors, engineers, science majors, designers, makers, and youth enrichment professionals who enjoy helping young people learn through hands-on discovery. Curriculum and lesson materials are provided. What You'll Teach Activities may include: Hands-on science experiments Engineering design challenges Building and construction projects Simple machines Structures and bridge challenges Forces, motion, and energy Basic circuits and electricity Maker and invention projects Environmental science activities Physics and chemistry experiments Creative design challenges Prototyping and testing Art and engineering projects STEM problem-solving activities Collaborative team challenges Design thinking and iteration Activities are designed to be interactive, project-based, age-appropriate, and engaging for young learners. Responsibilities Lead engaging after-school STEAM and STEM enrichment classes Teach lessons using provided curriculum and activity plans Facilitate hands-on science experiments, engineering challenges, and creative projects Explain scientific and engineering concepts in clear, age-appropriate ways Guide students through the design-build-test-improve process Encourage creativity, curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking Help students make predictions, test ideas, troubleshoot, and learn from results Adapt instruction for different ages, abilities, and learning styles Maintain a positive, inclusive, organized, and safe classroom environment Manage classroom routines, transitions, materials, and student behavior Prepare and organize lesson materials before each session Assist with project and classroom cleanup after class Take attendance and submit brief class updates when required Communicate professionally with school staff and program coordinators Follow all school-site and program procedures Maintain appropriate supervision and student safety at all times Qualifications We encourage applicants who: Enjoy working with children and young learners Have an interest or background in STEM, STEAM, science, engineering, technology, design, education, or maker learning Are comfortable leading hands-on projects and experiments Can explain concepts in simple, engaging ways Are creative, patient, organized, enthusiastic, and dependable Have strong communication and classroom-management skills Are comfortable leading and supervising groups of students Can follow provided lesson plans while adapting activities to student needs Enjoy helping students experiment, troubleshoot, and solve problems Can reliably commit to the program schedule throughout the school term Can reliably travel to assigned school sites within the Bay Area Experience working with children through teaching, tutoring, camps, after-school programs, STEM programs, museums, robotics programs, mentoring, childcare, coaching, or youth enrichment is strongly preferred. Multi-Site Assignment Digital Dreamers STEAM Academy partners with multiple school sites across: San Francisco Oakland Berkeley Hayward Newark Instructors may be assigned to one or more school locations based on program schedules, enrollment, instructor availability, and staffing needs. Candidates should be comfortable traveling to assigned school sites within the service area. Instructors who are available to support multiple locations may have opportunities to teach additional sessions and increase their weekly hours.
