Position Summary The Assistant Program Leader works alongside other After School Program staff to provide meaningful opportunities for youth in YMCA programs at branches, or local elementary and middle schools. This role supports program activities on an as-needed basis, working under the supervision of Program Site Coordinators and Directors. The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, initiative, punctuality, and a commitment to serving youth and supporting team goals.
After School Program Dates Marin Sites:
August 18, 2025 - June 13, 2026 Job Responsibilities Program Support & Activities Assist with implementing engaging, age-appropriate activities that support learning, creativity, and fun. Help lead academic enrichment, tutoring, and recreational activities as directed by the program lead or supervisor. Support setup, cleanup, and preparation of program materials and spaces. Supervision & Safety Actively supervise and engage with youth to ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment. Follow safety procedures and promptly report any incidents or concerns to the supervisor. Step in to support classroom or group supervision as needed to maintain proper staff-to-student ratios. Administrative Support Assist with maintaining accurate attendance, sign-in/out sheets, and basic program records. Help track and organize program supplies and materials. Communication & Teamwork Communicate respectfully with youth, families, and team members. Participate in regular check-ins and share feedback or observations with supervisors. Training & Professional Growth Complete required trainings before working with participants. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and development sessions. Qualifications At least 16 years of age (applicants under 18 must provide an authorized work permit). Demonstrated interest in supporting quality after-school programs for youth. Comfortable facilitating a variety of physical and recreational activities with participants. Able to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a team environment. Available Monday through Friday during after-school program hours (typically 1:00-6:00 p.m.). Hold or be willing to obtain current CPR and First Aid certification (YMCA approved). Must provide TB test clearance prior to employment. Work Environment & Physical Demands The Assistant Program Leader works in a dynamic environment at local elementary or middle school sites, including indoor classrooms and outdoor schoolyards. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and active participation in physical activities such as recreational sports and games. The environment can be fast-paced and loud, and the role may require occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. Salary Description The Assistant Program Leader position offers a compensation range of $23.00- $25.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
