JOB DESCRIPTION

To prepare and provide grade-relevant learning activities that enable students to understand the principles of civics, government, citizenship, and the democratic process.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Plan and prepare lesson plans that meet course objectives and align with Florida's Civics standards and curriculum goals. Prepare instructional aids, supplemental teaching materials, and resources consistent with learning objectives and student needs. Select and request appropriate books, instructional materials, technology, and classroom supplies as needed. Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques appropriate to students' academic levels and diverse learning needs. Effectively teach essential Civics concepts, including the foundations of government, the U.S. Constitution, the branches of government, citizens' rights and responsibilities, and the electoral process. Promote students' understanding of and appreciation for civic engagement, responsible citizenship, and democratic principles. Thoughtfully integrate technology and current events to engage students and connect Civics concepts to real-world situations. Encourage the development of critical-thinking, reading, writing, problem-solving, and evidence-based reasoning skills. Prepare students for the Florida Civics End-of-Course Assessment through standards-aligned instruction, data analysis, and targeted review.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

: Create a safe and flexible classroom environment conducive to optimal student learning. Help students work independently and collaboratively in groups. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that conform to school and district policies and promote learning in the classroom. Encourage student responsibility, cooperation, tolerance, civic participation, and mutual respect in a manner consistent with school and district policies and procedures. Keep parents or guardians informed of students' academic progress and any social or behavioral concerns.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

: Participate in staff meetings and training sessions. Undertake professional development activities to ensure continued professional growth and the development of teaching skills. Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to improve student learning and achievement.

STUDENT EVALUATION

: Track and monitor student learning using a variety of techniques. Prepare and administer assessments that are aligned with Florida's Civics standards and the school's curriculum. Grade assessments, assignments, projects, and other student work accurately and promptly. Remain current with district and state standardized-testing requirements and use effective instructional practices to maximize student achievement. Administer standardized assessments in accordance with school, district, and state testing procedures. Monitor student performance and progress and modify instructional methods to meet individual needs when necessary. Foster positive working relationships with students, teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders to support students' development and well-being. Keep parents or guardians informed of students' academic progress and behavioral concerns. Maintain accurate and complete student records, including attendance, grades, assessments, and test scores, as required by school and district procedures and regulations. Provide progress reports, interim reports, and report card grades as required.
