Afternoons, Monday-Friday during the school year About Highland Kids Academy Highland Kids Academy is a Christ-centered childcare and after-school program serving children from Pre-K through 6th grade. Our goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We are looking for a dependable, caring, and energetic After School Teacher who understands that working with children is more than supervision. Our teachers are expected to build positive relationships with students, participate in activities, encourage learning, help children work through challenges, and create an environment where every child feels valued and supported. Position Summary The After School Teacher will be responsible for supervising and engaging a group of school-age children during our after-school program. The teacher will assist students with homework and reading, lead age-appropriate activities, facilitate centers and recreational activities, and maintain a safe and organized classroom. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, is patient and dependable, communicates well, and is comfortable working as part of a team. Essential Responsibilities Supervise children at all times and maintain a safe environment. Build positive and appropriate relationships with students. Actively participate in children's activities rather than simply observing. Assist students with homework, reading, and other school-related assignments. Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, games, crafts, and learning experiences. Provide opportunities for children to participate in gym, outdoor play, centers, and group activities. Help children resolve conflicts and learn appropriate ways to communicate and solve problems. Encourage positive behavior and reinforce classroom expectations. Communicate respectfully and effectively with children, parents, and coworkers. Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming classroom. Prepare classroom materials and activities before children arrive. Follow daily schedules, classroom procedures, and Highland Kids Academy policies. Maintain accurate attendance and follow appropriate check-in/check-out procedures. Use Brightwheel for communication and program-related responsibilities as directed. Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures. Work cooperatively with teachers, floaters, bus drivers, administrators, and other HKA staff. Participate in staff meetings and required training. Help create a positive, Christ-centered environment that promotes character development, kindness, honesty, integrity, and respect.
Qualifications Required:
Must be dependable and punctual. Must enjoy working with school-age children. Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults. Must be able to work as part of a team. Must be able to maintain a safe and appropriate environment for children. Must be willing to follow all HKA policies and procedures. Must meet applicable childcare employment requirements.
Preferred:
Previous childcare, preschool, elementary, after-school, camp, or youth program experience. Experience leading children's activities. CPR/First Aid certification. Child Development Associate (CDA) or other early childhood/childcare education. Education, teaching, or child development experience.
