About Our Family & Students We are seeking an engaging, structured, and compassionate In-Home Educator to guide our two children—a 5th grader (elementary) and a 7th grader (middle school)—for the upcoming academic year. Our goal is to foster a love for learning, critical thinking, and independence through customized instruction. The 5th grader thrives with hands-on learning and multi-sensory activities, while the 7th grader requires a mix of structured academics, executive function support, and deeper independent study in middle school subjects.
Key Responsibilities Curriculum Implementation & Lesson Planning:
Deliver daily, age-appropriate instruction across core subjects including Mathematics, Language Arts/Reading, Science, and Social Studies/History.
Dual-Grade Management:
Successfully balances instructional time between an upper-elementary student and a middle school student, blending direct instruction with guided independent study.
Progress Tracking & Assessment:
Maintain records of daily attendance, assignments, and academic milestones. Provide regular progress updates to parents.
Iowa Legal Compliance Support:
Assist the family in meeting relevant Iowa Private Instruction standards (e.g., maintaining portfolio work samples and supporting annual progress reviews if participating under Competent Private Instruction/CPI).
Executive Functioning & Study Skills:
Teach effective organizational habits, goal-setting, and time management—especially for the 7th grader transitioning into advanced middle school material.
Enrichment & Hands-on Learning:
Incorporate educational projects, STEM experiments, art, and local field trip planning into the routine.
Education & Qualification RequirementsMandatory Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
Licensure:
Valid Iowa Teaching License (current or recently active) with appropriate endorsements for Elementary (K-6) and/or Middle School (5-8) instruction preferred. (Candidates with valid out-of-state teaching credentials will also be considered.)
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of classroom teaching, formal tutoring, or private home-education experience with elementary or middle school age groups.
Background Checks:
Ability to pass comprehensive background checks, including state and federal criminal history, child abuse registry, and motor vehicle checks.
Certifications:
First Aid and CPR certified (or willing to obtain before start date).
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience as a private homeschool teacher or Home School Assistance Program (HSAP) supervising teacher in Iowa Familiarity with popular open-and-go homeschool curricula

Johnston, Iowa (In-home instruction in a dedicated learning space equipped with supplies, internet, and curriculum materials). Safe, supportive, and non-smoking household.
