A Middle or High School Teacher teaches middle school students, usually in grades 6 - 12, in a public or private school. Teaches one subject, or a group of subjects, such as math and science; works with one class all year or teaches different classes of students throughout the day. May mentor students, coach a school team or advise a student club. May specialize in working with students learning English or students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.
Overview (this role is part-time offering 20+ hours per week) We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Afterschool Program Activity Leader to join our team! The Activity Leader will help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for school-age children during our afterschool program. Our students are ages 5+ (kindergarten-4th grade). This position is responsible for supervising students, leading age-appropriate activities, supporting positive behavior, and helping children build social, creative, and academic skills. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, is energetic and patient, and can create a fun and structured environment where every child feels included and supported. Responsibilities Supervise children throughout the afterschool program and ensure their safety and well-being. Plan and lead engaging activities such as arts and crafts, gym games, and other enrichment opportunities. Encourage children to participate, explore their interests, and develop new skills. Provide homework help and academic support as needed. Foster positive relationships with students and create an environment where children feel welcome, respected, and included. Help resolve conflicts between students in a calm and appropriate manner. Assist with snack time, bathroom breaks, transitions, and other daily program routines. Keep students actively engaged and appropriately supervised throughout the program. Communicate with parents/guardians and school or program staff as needed regarding student activities, behavior, and needs. Help prepare activity areas and ensure supplies and equipment are organized and ready for use. Assist with cleaning and organizing program spaces at the end of each day, including putting away supplies, wiping down areas, taking out trash, and ensuring the space is ready for the next program day. Follow all program policies, safety procedures, and expectations. Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a successful and enjoyable afterschool experience for all students. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with school-age children in an afterschool, childcare, recreation, education, camp, or similar setting is preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age. Reliable transportation required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead activities and engage children in a positive and enthusiastic manner. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and effectively supervise groups of children. Patience, dependability, flexibility, and a positive attitude are essential. Ability to work as part of a team. Experience with behavior management or youth development is a plus. Experience in education, recreation, child development, or a related field is a plus. Commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all children feel valued and supported.
