A Middle or High School Teacher teaches middle school students, usually in grades 6 - 12, in a public or private school. Teaches one subject, or a group of subjects, such as math and science; works with one class all year or teaches different classes of students throughout the day. May mentor students, coach a school team or advise a student club. May specialize in working with students learning English or students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Job Description

Responsible for planning and implementing recreational activities for the after-school program. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Planning and leading sports, arts and crafts, and other specialized activities.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Engaging children in both indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Supervising children on scheduled off-site field trips.
  • Attending required staff meetings and program planning meetings.
  • Maintaining all required credentials and completing training in accordance with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care requirements. Position Hours 3:30
  • 6:30 pm, Monday
  • Friday, everyday that MCPS is in session. 1:00
  • 6:30 pm on MCPS Early Release Days. Skills
  • Knowledge of general activities appropriate for school-age children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.
  • Ability to complete a medical examination within 15 days of hire.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification may be required (training is provided at no cost, if needed).
  • Valid Maryland driver's license preferred. Experience
  • Experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of sports, games, and recreational programming, with the ability to implement activities effectively. Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Coursework in Child Development or a related field is preferred
