Middle School Science Teacher Job Duties:
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on national, local, and school standards in science education, and research and knowledge of developmental behaviors. Deliver a high-quality, engaging, balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs and interests of the students. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems established by the school. Convey appropriate feedback on the students' work. Retain accurate and complete records of the progress and development of the students. Update all necessary records accurately and completely per school policies. Prepare required reports on students and activities. Participate in department, learning community, and all-school meetings. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, potential, and behavior periodically through phone or electronic means and at parent and teacher conferences. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks, or other standard test practices. Collaborate in the development of a vertically aligned curriculum across Learning Communities. Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional colleagues. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
