Working with diverse stakeholders across the city, CEC develops critical resources and systems-level solutions that address common challenges faced by Detroit families. The CEC oversees the GOAL Line, an innovative program in Northwest Detroit that provides transportation and afterschool programming for students from partner schools.

• Share information about schools : The commission ensures that parents and students can easily access accurate and meaningful information about any district or charter school in the city through its Detroit Parents' Guide to Schools.

GOAL Line Overview The Community Education Commission's GOAL Line program offers reliable transportation and high-quality afterschool programming to students in Northwest Detroit. The GOAL Line's critical wraparound resources enable families to access schools of their choice and support student learning. For the 2024-2024 school year, students in grades K-8 attending any of the 11 partner schools

• including both traditional district and charter schools
• are eligible to participate.

GOAL Line Students can use the GOAL Line bus loop to ride from school to Goal Line and are also eligible to participate in the GOAL Line after-school enrichment program at the Northwest Activities Center. GOAL Line Afterschool Students participate in activities and enrichment classes that expand their creativity, help them build new skills, and support their social-emotional learning. Job Overview GOAL Line is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the part-time role of after-school Student Coordinator. In this role, you will be critical to the successful operation of the GOAL Line after-school program. You will be responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school-age children and opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic/personal growth. Student Coordinators also participate in activities and trips while providing and maintaining a safe working environment. They help with homework and prepare students to demonstrate newly acquired skills in Sports, STEM, Arts, and Social-emotional learning.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

• Inspire and motivate students to engage in physical activities daily.
• Develop well-structured, age-appropriate lesson plans and projects with clear learning objectives based on the provided sports and physical activity guide.
• Maintain open lines of communication with the Program Director and Lead Enrichment Coordinators to coordinate programs, leagues, tournaments, and special events.
• Encourage and motivate students to take part in organization-wide enrichment activities.
• Implement and uphold safety rules and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly environment for the students under your supervision.
• Prepare facilities for group activities, ensuring a safe and organized environment.
• Foster the progressive development of student skills and character within the youth community.
• Modify each activity to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants within the given space.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Must have strong knowledge and expertise in sports and prior experience in successfully working with youth.
• Previous experience in teaching and instructing youth is preferred.
• Ability to follow a curriculum is essential.
• Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• May need to navigate stairs and lift or move objects/materials as required.
• Work primarily occurs at Northwest Activity Center, but interaction with the larger community during outings or events may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some colleges prefer it.
• A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
• Must have a passion for the GOAL Line mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.
• Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.
