Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 2:30 PM-7:30 PM (Shifts will be within these hours; typically ending by 6pm most days.) Position Overview The Afterschool Teacher supports a safe, structured, and positive environment for children 5-12 years of age. This role focuses on following our daily schedule, supervising students, assisting with homework, and creating an atmosphere where children feel included, encouraged, and excited to participate throughout the day. Key Responsibilities Daily Schedule Support — Follow the established schedule, transitioning children smoothly between homework time, activities, outdoor play, and dismissal. Homework Assistance — Provide guidance and encouragement during homework time, helping students stay focused and complete assignments. Active Supervision — Maintain attentive, positive supervision both indoors and outdoors to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. Outdoor Engagement — Enjoy taking children outside for structured games, free play, and physical activity while promoting teamwork and fun. Classroom Cleanliness — Keep the classroom neat, organized, and ready for daily activities, including light cleanup and resetting spaces. Behavior Guidance — Address minor behavior issues calmly and respectfully using age‑appropriate strategies; never yell, belittle, or shame children. Child Development Awareness — Interact with children in ways that support their social, emotional, and developmental needs, offering patience, nurturing, and positive reinforcement. Required Certifications & Compliance (North Carolina) Must complete BSAC (Basic School Age Care) training upon hiring Must pass a criminal background check to obtain a North Carolina Qualification Letter before hiring Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification upon hiring Must complete all required annual and onboarding trainings as mandated by the program and state regulations Supervise children during afterschool hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, outdoor games, tutoring sessions, and youth group activities Manage classroom behavior using positive reinforcement and effective behavior management strategies Implement first aid protocols when necessary, including CPR and AED operation, to respond promptly to emergencies Support children with special educational needs by adapting activities and providing individualized attention Foster a welcoming environment that encourages teamwork, creativity, and personal growth among children Collaborate with team members to develop engaging curricula aligned with childhood development standards and youth programs Experience Prior experience working with children in educational, childcare or youth program settings is highly preferred Demonstrated classroom management skills and ability to handle diverse behavioral situations effectively Knowledge of first aid procedures, CPR certification, AED operation, and first aid protocols required or willing to obtain upon hire Experience facilitating youth group activities or leading outdoor work experiences is advantageous Background in special education or childhood development enhances ability to support varied learning needs Previous roles such as babysitting, daycare assistant, theater instructor, or youth counselor provide valuable relevant experience Strong team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide children through engaging activities Join us in creating a fun-filled environment where children thrive!
