FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to teach middle and high school students content focused on family and consumer science for application in consumer and career settings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop lesson plans related to family and consumer science content areas and provide instruction for application in consumer and career settings. Content areas include apparel design and construction, child development, nutrition and food preparation, residential interior design, and digital applications. Supervise and work directly with students in classroom laboratory using appropriate production techniques with various tools and equipment in content area courses. Provide normal maintenance of the lab machines and ensure that the inventory of materials and supplies is up-to-date and available for student instruction. Teach students how to use software and machines that assist in the fabrication and design phase of projects ensuring all safety procedures are followed. Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate. Use appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative, and innovative thinking capabilities of students. Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of current family and consumer science content and instructional methods, resources, software, and technology Knowledge and ability to use appropriate equipment, tools, and software for application in a lab setting Knowledge of Common Core and NC CTE Essential Standards Proficiency in common desktop applications (web browsing, word processing, image editing etc.) required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree in Family and Consumer Content Area (Apparel/Textiles, Child Development, Foods/Nutrition, Interior Design) PLUS two years' work experience within the past five years in related field.
Desirable:
Bachelor's Degree in Family and Consumer Education PLUS two years work experience teaching content area in the classroom or related industry work within the past five years.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Eligible candidates would hold a 710 Family and Consumer Science Education OR be eligible for a 710 Family and Consumer Science Education license with an appropriate degree and work experience When applying, please make sure to include all prior experience in your application.
