Overview We are seeking an innovative, visionary, and deeply engaging Lead Teacher to guide a small homeschool co-op pod of up to 8 curious, multi-age learners (spanning 2nd to 5th grade) for the upcoming school year. Our community values an immersive, non-traditional educational experience. Rather than relying on standard worksheet-heavy curricula, our learning environment focuses on an interdisciplinary, project-based framework that integrates African American studies, agricultural science, climate stewardship, community building, tech literacy, creative writing, and foundational mathematics. This position offers a unique collaborative model: you will work alongside a passionate team of involved parents who actively assist with hands-on projects, field learning, and extracurricular activities during the morning session.

Key Responsibilities Lead Morning Instruction:

Design and facilitate 3-4 hours of daily interdisciplinary instruction (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, M-Th), weaving core subjects (Math, Creative Writing) together with thematic units (African American Studies, Climate/Ag, Tech). Utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other learning technology tools to deliver engaging lessons, track progress, and communicate with parents and guardians effectively.

Multi-Age Differentiation:

Balance the learning needs of a multi-age cohort (2nd-5th grade), fostering collaborative, peer-to-peer learning alongside individualized skills progression.

Team & Parent Collaboration:

Partner effectively with the on-site Academic Support Teacher to pull small groups and differentiate lessons. Coordinate with parent volunteers assisting with hands-on projects and field excursions.

Experiential & Field Learning:

Utilize hands-on projects, garden/outdoor learning, community trips, and digital tools to bring concepts to life.

Holistic Assessment:

Track student growth through portfolios, project milestones, and narrative evaluations alongside traditional standardized testing.

Qualifications & Desired Experience Teaching Background:

3+ years leading elementary groups in alternative, progressive, or community-based settings (e.g., micro-schools, Montessori, Homeschool, private tutoring).

Subject Alignment:

Strong background or demonstrated expertise in integrating African American Studies, environmental/agricultural literacy, and tech into primary education. Ability to strongly adapt and teach mathematics and science at both grade level and above

Collaborative Leadership:

Experience co-teaching or leading in environments with active support staff and parent volunteers.

Pedagogical Approach:

Deeply aligned with non-traditional, student-centered, and place-based education. Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS), learning technology tools, and digital resources to facilitate remote or hybrid instruction. Excellent communication skills f or parent engagement, student motivation, and team collaboration; ability to clearly convey complex concepts in an understandable manner.

Requirements:

Relevant degree in Education, African American Studies, Environmental Science, or related field preferred. Must pass a background check.

Pay:

$35.00 - $40.00 per hour
