$30/hour About Us Tinker Labs is bringing hands-on, all-sciences STEM education to Eugene for the first time — an internationally established program now opening its first U.S. location. We run a structured, age-tailored 9-month curriculum for kids ages 3-13, covering the full range of sciences. We're looking for instructors to join us as we build something new in the Eugene community. About the Role You'll lead small, hands-on classes once weekly across our four age-tiered programs. Strong classroom management is essential to this role — you'll be running hands-on, activity-based lessons independently, which means keeping a group of energetic kids focused, safe, and engaged is just as important as the science content itself. This is a part-time, evening/after-school schedule — a great fit for someone building a flexible teaching career, supplementing another role, or returning to hands-on instruction on their own terms.
Our Programs:
Tinker Garden (ages 3-5) — 45 minutes, capped at 8 kids + accompanying parent Tinker Tots (ages 6-7) — 60 minutes, capped at 10 students Tinker Town (ages 8-9) — 60 minutes, capped at 10 students Tinker World (ages 10-13) — 75 minutes, capped at 10 students What You'll Do Independently manage a classroom in one or more of our four programs, keeping activities on track and every student engaged Lead engaging, hands-on STEM classes using our proven Tinker Labs methodology — no lesson planning required Follow our structured curriculum and teaching framework that's been refined internationally; we handle the planning, you focus on delivery and classroom management Adapt pacing and approach to the age group you're teaching Create a safe, encouraging, and genuinely fun classroom environment Communicate with parents about student progress Help make science feel exciting, not intimidating, for every kid in the room What We're Looking For Proven classroom or group management skills (this is a must-have) Experience with kids in a teaching, tutoring, camp counselor, or coaching capacity A background in education OR a STEM field (science, engineering, tech, math) — either is welcome Patience, energy, and genuine enthusiasm for working with kids Comfort working across different age bands, or a clear preference if you're specialized Reliable availability for evening/after-school hours What We Provide Full training and certification in the Tinker Labs methodology Ready-made lesson materials and curriculum Support and mentorship as you develop your classroom management skills
