Outdoor Nature Educator Assistant

In this paid role, you will support an experienced educator in delivering engaging, hands-on outdoor programs that foster curiosity, environmental awareness, and foundational skills in a natural setting. Your positive energy and commitment to child development will help create memorable learning experiences that promote growth, exploration, and a lifelong love of the outdoors. Responsibilities Assist lead educator in planning and implementing outdoor lessons focused on nature exploration, environmental stewardship, and basic science concepts. Support children during outdoor activities, ensuring safety and encouraging active participation. Help facilitate age-appropriate learning experiences. Willing to assist the teacher with nature lessons, walks, stories, songs, nature journaling, and free play. Supervise children during outdoor play and nature walks, maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. Engage children with storytelling, observation exercises, and hands-on projects that promote curiosity about the natural world. Assist with classroom management strategies to foster positive behavior and respectful interactions among children, cultivating the Montessori philosophy and culture. Able to lift 25 lbs, bend, walk, and be on foot for long periods of time. Able to work 11:45-2:45 every day (with possible additional hours in the After School Care Program 2:45-4:30/5:30). Skills Strong understanding of childhood development principles, education best practices, and Montessori philosophy of education. Excellent communication skills to connect with children, teachers, and team members clearly and positively. Familiarity with classroom management strategies to create a safe, engaging environment for young learners. Ability to adapt activities for different age groups 5-12 years Passion for working outdoors and inspiring a love of nature through educational activities rooted in Montessori philosophies. Loves being outdoors-we are outside 99% of the time ("There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!")
