Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Education/Certification
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
State certification in teaching field preferred
Experience:
1-2 years experience in a classroom setting, middle school preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrate current knowledge and skill in using research-based instructional methods
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Ability to instruct scholars and manage scholar behavior
Must be able to communicate effectively with students and co-workers
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to creatively problem-solve in a team atmosphere
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities and Duties:
Employ appropriate instructional strategies and activities in order to ensure academic growth for all students
Demonstrate current knowledge and skill in using research-based instructional methods
Create a safe, respectful learning environment for students and actively engage them in the learning process
Modify or provide additional instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs
Work with students before and after school and on weekends to provide additional instruction to ensure content mastery
Work with colleagues to create horizontal and vertical alignment of the curriculum as well as promoting the growth of the organization as a whole
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
Use instructional technology purposefully in the classroom to extend learning options/opportunities
Demonstrate interest and initiative in ongoing professional development
Promote a college-going atmosphere in the classroom and demonstrate high expectations for students
Equipment Used:
Computer, copier, and audiovisual equipment
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintains emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, keeling, pushing, and
pulling. Moves small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive
equipment.
