Job Overview Highest Speak | Fairfax County, VA Part-Time | Weekday Afternoons Highest Speak, a 5-star-rated public speaking and communication program for students, is hiring fun, engaging, and highly dependable instructors to teach our after-school programs at Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) locations. Our after-school programs serve primarily students in Grades 1-6 , so we're looking for instructors who genuinely enjoy working with elementary-age children and know how to bring energy, encouragement, patience, and FUN into a classroom. We welcome college students, graduate students, teachers, former teachers, educators, counselors, and other professionals who love working with kids and have engaging, outgoing personalities. Highest Speak programs help students build confidence and real-world communication skills through public speaking, storytelling, persuasive speaking, impromptu speaking, presentations, games, and interactive activities. Our classes are designed to be high-energy, hands-on, and FUN — we want instructors who can bring that same energy into the classroom. Schedule Candidates must be available at least 2-3 weekdays per week between approximately 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM. Exact program times vary by school. This is a great opportunity for college or graduate students with afternoon availability, teachers looking for additional income, or educators who enjoy working with students in a fun, interactive environment. Who We're Looking For Our ideal instructors are: FUN, energetic, warm, and engaging Extremely reliable and punctual — once you are assigned to a school, students and school staff are counting on you to be there Comfortable and enthusiastic working primarily with students in Grades 1-6 Confident communicators who can model strong speaking skills Comfortable getting a little silly, playing games, and creating an environment where kids feel excited to participate Able to manage a group of elementary-age students while keeping activities positive, structured, and interactive Patient and encouraging with different personalities, abilities, and confidence levels Professional when communicating with parents, school staff, and the Highest Speak team Able to follow an established curriculum while bringing their own personality and creativity to it Genuinely excited about helping kids find their voices and become confident communicators Experience in teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, theater, debate, public speaking, youth programs, or other work with children is strongly preferred.

If you are already contracted with FCPS as an independent contractor and/or currently hold FCPS credentials or badging, please let us know when you apply. If you are not currently badged, that's okay. Selected instructors will need to complete the required FCPS badging/background-check process before being assigned to FCPS programs. Requirements Availability at least 2-3 weekday afternoons between approximately 2:30-5:00 PM Reliable transportation and ability to travel to different FCPS school locations throughout Fairfax County Experience and comfort working with elementary-age children Excellent communication skills Strong reliability and professionalism Ability to complete required background checks, badging, and school requirements Commitment to the full duration of assigned after-school programs Compensation Starting at $25/hour, with higher compensation based on relevant teaching, public speaking, youth-program, and professional experience. Additional opportunities may also become available through Highest Speak classes, camps, workshops, private coaching, and other programs. Training & Curriculum Provided You do not need to already be a professional public speaking coach. Highest Speak provides training, curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and ongoing support. We can train you in the Highest Speak curriculum.
