Job Summary:

The Elementary After-School Program Worker provides a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for elementary-aged students during after-school hours. This position assists with supervision, academic support, recreational activities, and behavior management while promoting positive social interactions and student development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise and ensure the safety of students during after-school program activities. Assist students with homework and academic enrichment projects. Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate recreational, educational, and arts-and-crafts activities. Foster a positive and respectful environment for all students. Maintain accurate attendance records and monitor student sign-in and sign-out procedures. Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and program leadership. Enforce program rules and behavioral expectations in a consistent and positive manner. Assist with snack distribution and ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines. Set up and clean activity areas before, during, and after program hours. Report accidents, incidents, concerns, or behavioral issues to supervisors promptly. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate activities. Ability to supervise groups of children effectively. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage behavior using positive reinforcement techniques. Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workday. Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds as needed.

Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or coursework in Education, Child Development, Recreation, or a related field preferred. Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, childcare, camp, or recreational setting preferred. Ability to build positive relationships with children and families. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or ability to obtain). Required OSPI fingerprint/background clearance Must be in agreement with BCS Doctrinal Statement
