Job Description

About us Mahoning Valley Historical Society collects, preserves, and teaches the history of the people of the Mahoning Valley. MVHS has amassed a collection well in excess of half a million objects and documents, which illuminate human experiences in this region of Ohio from the present to the earliest people to inhabit the Mahoning River watershed more than 10,000 years ago. MVHS has two locations. Arms Family Museum on Wick Avenue, which includes the Stewart Media Archives Center, a repository for local broadcast media history collections and production facilities, in the former Arms Carriage House on the rear of the property. Tyler History Center on West Federal Street features exhibit galleries, an education center, restored ballroom and event space, and the MVHS Archives Resource Center housing the Society's extensive archives collection. Members of the MVHS Board of Directors and staff fully appreciate the organization's professional, ethical and fiduciary responsibilities to preserve the collections and other resources entrusted to the organization, and to make them accessible to all people, for now and for generations to come.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Multi-Media Specialist provides technical support and conservation measures for maintaining the film and videotape libraries of the Business and Media Archives of the Mahoning Valley collection and assists with the general operations of the collection under the supervision of the Project Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collections Management
  • Maintain storage areas and cataloging information for the BMAMV 16mm news film and videotape collection, under supervision of the Project Manager;
  • Clean, repair, and re-house 16mm film and videotape as needed;
  • Transfer film and videotape footage from BMAMV collection to current audio-visual formats for use by researchers, film and video producers, and broadcast media companies;
  • Transfer film and videotape collection to a high quality digital format for future dubbing and preservation of the information on the original format materials;
  • Maintain historic recording and broadcast equipment in the BMAMV collection for use in format transfers, educational demonstrations, and exhibitions; Other
  • Document Mahoning Valley Historical Society's regular and special events and programs in audio and video formats
  • Production and editing of high quality promotional and educational media for public consumption
  • Possess or else develop proficiency in a variety of digital media formats, including Final Cut Pro and Mac operating systesms
  • Assist the Project Manager with daily on-site, telephone, and email enquiries and duplication requests;
  • Maintain non-historic recording and broadcasting equipment utilized in management of the BMAMV collection;
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in history, American studies, telecommunications or other related disciplines. Extensive experience in the broadcast media industry in lieu of a degree. Prior working knowledge of editing and maintaining film and analog video formats desirable. Effective interpersonal and communication skills required. Include links to demo videos.
HOURS:
Full-time, 35 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend duty required.
