Job Description

Position Summary Stetson Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Music Docent to lead a weekly instrumental music elective for students in grades 3-8. This is a part-time position (2 hours per week) designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of music through hands-on instruction with a variety of instruments. The ideal candidate is passionate about music education, enjoys working with children, and can foster a positive, encouraging learning environment. Schedule 2 hours per week (~10:40-11:40) Weekly elective class for students in grades 3-8 Responsibilities Plan and teach engaging, age-appropriate instrumental music lessons for students in grades 3-8. Introduce students to a variety of musical instruments, techniques, and basic music theory. Teach proper instrument care, handling, and maintenance. Foster an appreciation for music through interactive, hands-on learning experiences. Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying skill levels and learning styles. Encourage student participation, creativity, collaboration, and confidence. Maintain a positive, organized, and respectful classroom environment. Prepare lesson materials and activities that align with the school's educational goals. Communicate with school administration regarding curriculum, student progress, and supply needs. Prepare and rehearse students for at least two major school performances each academic year, demonstrating the skills and musical growth achieved through the elective. Ensure the safe use of all instruments and equipment. Qualifications Experience teaching music to elementary and/or middle school students preferred. Proficiency in one or more musical instruments; experience with multiple instruments is highly desirable. Strong understanding of basic music theory and instrumental instruction. Ability to engage and motivate students with varying musical backgrounds and abilities. Excellent classroom management and communication skills. Patient, positive, and enthusiastic approach to teaching. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff. Reliable, organized, and professional. Ability to pass all required background checks and meet state requirements for working with children. Preferred Qualifications Degree or coursework in Music, Music Education, or a related field. Experience directing beginning instrumental ensembles or school music programs. Experience teaching small-group or elective classes. Familiarity with integrating music appreciation, rhythm, and performance into elementary and middle school instruction.
Pay:
$50.00 - $65.00 per hour
