Temporary After-School Performing Arts Instructor-DC Karaoke | Show Choir | Beginning Piano We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable After-School Performing Arts Instructor for an immediate temporary and intermittent assignment working with elementary-aged students. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and skills in vocal music, show choir, dance/movement, and/or beginning piano instruction . Candidates who have experience in more than one area are strongly encouraged to apply. Immediate availability is preferred, with the possibility of beginning as early as Monday, September 14, 2026. Teaching Areas Karaoke Instructor, Pre-K through Grade 5 The instructor will create a fun, age-appropriate karaoke experience that helps students build confidence while learning basic vocal and performance skills.
Responsibilities may include:
Teaching proper singing techniques at an age-appropriate level Helping students learn lyrics, rhythm, melody, and musical expression Encouraging confidence and stage presence Leading individual and group singing activities Selecting school-appropriate music Maintaining an engaging and well-managed classroom environment Show Choir Instructor, Grades 3 through 5 The instructor will teach students how to combine singing, movement, and performance.
Responsibilities may include:
Teaching vocal technique, breathing, projection, and harmony Teaching basic dance steps, choreography, and stage movement Preparing students to sing and move simultaneously Teaching stage presence and performance skills Rehearsing ensemble numbers Preparing students for possible school performances or showcases Creating an encouraging environment for students with different levels of experience Beginning Piano Instructor The instructor will introduce children to the fundamentals of piano and music reading.
Responsibilities may include:
Teaching proper hand position and fingering Teaching finger numbers and keyboard geography Introducing scales and basic technical exercises Teaching students to identify notes on the keyboard Teaching beginning music notation and note reading Introducing rhythm, counting, and musical symbols Helping students connect written music to the keyboard Teaching simple beginning songs and exercises Desired Skills and Qualifications Candidates should have: Experience teaching or working with elementary-aged children Strong classroom management skills Patience, enthusiasm, dependability, and professionalism Ability to work with students at different skill levels Strong communication skills Knowledge of age-appropriate music and instructional practices Ability to create a positive, energetic, and safe learning environment Vocal/music experience for karaoke instruction Singing and basic choreography or dance experience for show choir Piano proficiency and knowledge of beginning music theory for piano instruction Ability to read music Experience preparing students for performances is a plus Music education, performing arts, education, or related training is preferred Important Requirement Current DCPS clearance is strongly desired and will receive priority consideration. Because this is an immediate assignment, we are especially interested in candidates who are already cleared and able to begin working with students right away. Position Type Temporary, intermittent after-school assignment. Hours and days may vary based on program needs. Immediate Opening We are looking to fill this position immediately .
