Job Description

Excel Music is seeking friendly, dependable Violin Instructors to teach private lessons at our New Tampa music school. This is an ongoing, part-time contract opportunity offering approximately 3-15 teaching hours per week, with opportunities to add students as each instructor's schedule grows. We welcome experienced teachers, performing musicians, undergraduate music students, and recent graduates who enjoy helping students build confidence, musical skills, and a lasting appreciation for music. Most of our students are children and beginning musicians, so patience, encouragement, reliability, and the ability to communicate well with families are essential. Instructors have the freedom to adapt their teaching methods, repertoire, and materials to each student's goals and learning style. Responsibilities Teach engaging, age-appropriate private violin lessons Tailor technique, repertoire, and lesson activities to each student's needs and goals Help students develop healthy playing technique, musicianship, and effective practice habits Provide assignments and brief progress updates when appropriate Communicate professionally with students, parents, and school staff Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality Keep the teaching room tidy and welcoming Prepare participating students for school recitals Follow school policies and procedures related to scheduling, communication, and student safety Qualifications Strong violin proficiency and a solid musical background Ability to teach beginning students safely and effectively Patience and enthusiasm when working with children and families Clear, professional communication and interpersonal skills Dependability and organization Reliable transportation to our New Tampa location Ability to pass a background check appropriate for working with minors Preferred Qualifications Previous private-lesson, classroom, coaching, or mentoring experience A music degree, current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate music program, or equivalent performance and teaching experience Ability to teach viola, cello, string bass, or additional instruments is a plus

Compensation:
$27-$32 per teaching hour, based on experience and qualifications Expected hours: Approximately 3-15 teaching hours per week Current openings are primarily on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with additional days available Instructors establish their recurring weekly availability and provide advance notice of any adjustments Work setting: In person Instructors are paid for student no-shows Student makeup lessons are scheduled with the student's regular instructor Current undergraduate and graduate students with strong violin skills, professional maturity, and experience working with children are encouraged to apply.
