4 paid hours (3 teaching + 1 planning) Required Orientation About PCCCArts The People's Center for Cultural & Contemporary Arts (PCCCArts) is a Chicago-based nonprofit arts education organization providing culturally responsive arts programming for children and youth through partnerships with schools and community organizations. Position Overview PCCCArts is seeking a Beat Making & Music Production Teaching Artist to lead an after-school program for students in grades 6-8 at Galileo Academy . The Teaching Artist will guide students through the creative and technical process of producing original music, including rhythm, sampling, sequencing, song structure, recording, and basic mixing. Students will use digital music-production tools to create individual and collaborative projects while developing their musical voice and technical skills. We are looking for a producer or musician who has strong music-production skills and can translate their experience into engaging, accessible instruction for middle-school students. Responsibilities Teach beat making and digital music production to students in grades 6-8 Introduce rhythm, sampling, sequencing, song structure, recording, and basic mixing Teach students to use a digital audio workstation (DAW) and related equipment Guide students in creating original beats and music projects Develop structured, age-appropriate lesson plans and projects Adapt instruction for different experience and skill levels Encourage creativity, collaboration, critical listening, and artistic expression Prepare student work for listening sessions, showcases, or other program opportunities Maintain a positive, structured, and culturally responsive classroom Communicate regularly with PCCCArts staff regarding student progress and program needs Help maintain and organize program equipment Follow PCCCArts and school-site youth-safety requirements QualificationsRequired Experience in beat making, music production, recording, or digital music creation Proficiency with a DAW such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, GarageBand, BandLab, Soundtrap, or similar Experience teaching, mentoring, or working with youth Ability to effectively engage students in grades 6-8 Strong communication and classroom-management skills Dependability and consistent availability for the full program schedule Preferred Experience teaching music production to middle-school or high-school students Professional or independent experience as a producer, beat maker, musician, songwriter, recording artist, or audio engineer Experience with MIDI controllers, microphones, audio interfaces, and recording equipment Familiarity with a range of contemporary and culturally relevant musical styles Experience developing music-production curriculum or youth creative projects Bilingual English/Spanish skills Degree or professional training in music production, audio engineering, music technology, music education, or a related field is preferred but not required Additional Paid Opportunities Teaching Artists may be considered for additional paid PCCCArts opportunities, including workshops, school programs, performances, special events, and summer programming. Any work outside the regular weekly assignment will be compensated separately .
