Guitar/Ukulele Substitute Teachers Needed, Newton, MA Description:
At Rob's Guitar School we are passionate about music! We teach guitar, ukulele, and other instruments to kids, teens, and adults of all levels and styles in private lessons and in class settings. Sound interesting? Read on! We are looking to add teachers to our substitute list who can be ready within a pre-agreed availability. We are primarily focused on having substitutes for ourmunity education program. For Newton, classes run in the afternoon on any given day of the week and starts up again in September. T may even be an opportunity to teach a regular class or two (not just sub) depending on the circumstances. For Needham, classes are in the evenings, no earlier than 5:30pm (see below for more details on both programs). It is a plus if you can sub for private lessons at our Newton school. However, this is not necessary—subbing for NCE is our top priority right now. Note that substitute teachers who demonstrate reliability, quality instruction, and greatmunication skills frequently get opportunities to join our regular teaching staff.
Newton Community Education Programs:
  • The Newton Community Education after-school classes run during the fall, winter, and spring months.
T are 3 or 4 students per class. All run from 2:45-4pm and may fall on any weekday. The only exception is Wednesday classes, which run from 12:15-1:30pm. (We do add on an extra 15min for the very last class of each season for a final performance.) All NCE classes are taught at various elementary schools within the Newton public school system (e.g., Mason-Rice, Bowen, Underwood, Lincoln-Eliot, etc.). Classes are either guitar or ukulele. These are all taught at the beginner level, and students range from grades 2-5.
Other Community Programs:
  • Needham Community Education adult beginner guitar classes (max of 4 students per class). These adult beginner guitar classes run year-round at schools in Needham. These are hour-long classes that start as early as 5:30 pm or as late as 7:30pm.
  • Newton Senior Class Programs.
These Newton Senior Program guitar and ukulele classes are hour-long classes and are typically taught during the late morning or early afternoon. Again, our priority is getting subs for our Newton CE, so if you are not available for Needham CE or the Senior Class, that is not a problem.
Private Lesson Substitute Teacher Work:
Lessons at Rob's Guitar School location (48 Chandler Place, Newton Upper Falls): These private lessons are taught at our school location (we don't make trips to students' homes). Lessons are on weekdays. They tend to be in the mid-late afternoons or evenings and run anyw from 30min to 1hr.
Qualifications:
We are looking for instructors who:
  • Are positive, upbeat, and professional and work well with both adults and kids ages 6 and up.
  • Have access to reliable transportation.
  • Live in close proximity to the Newton Upper Falls area.
  • Have at least 2 years' teaching experience (preferred).
  • Can teach guitar and ukulele at the beginner level for Community Education classes.
NOTE:
If you don't know how to play the ukulele, we'll show you. It's a very easy instrument to play that is very similar to the guitar.
  • For private lessons, teachers with intermediate and advanced teaching capabilities are preferred. The ability to teach beginner/intermediate bass or drums is also a plus but not required.
  • We run a CORI check on all teachers.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, please reply with a resume and cover letter. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
