Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; possess a valid Michigan School Teaching Certificate with music education endorsements, required; prior successful teaching experience, preferred. Basic piano and keyboarding skills Ability to develop/maintain a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and community. Clear criminal history check, physical, and drug test required; first aid training. Alternatives to the above qualification, as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides opportunities for music ensembles, including grade-level performances Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. Cooperates with all stakeholders in providing musical programs for events such as school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, seasonal programs, and extracurricular musical programs. Seeks to instill a love of music and encourage students to participate in secondary-level music programs. Provides instruction for assigned classes in the location(s) and at the times designated; develops appropriate lesson plans guided by the district-approved curriculum that establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., and then communicates said objectives to students and parents through the delivery of the instruction. Use effective and varied assessment practices to evaluate pupils' academic growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports/report cards; in response to assessment results, apply knowledge of current research and theory to develop/implement varied instructional practices, ensuring that all students make a full academic year's growth. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies while modeling district standards of ethics and professionalism; implement policy, procedural, and curriculum changes from administration, the board of education, or state/federal changes; implement the school improvement plan within the classroom ensuring building, district, and state standards/goals are met. Maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment, ensuring a positive instructional environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity/interests of the assigned students. Carry out the school discipline plan while providing students with clear expectations, a system of positive reinforcement, and sequential, consistent, progressive consequences; foster, recognize, and support ethnic, cultural, gender, economic, and human diversity within the classroom and school community. Available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Must be able to perform the physical demands of this position, which include sitting, standing, talking, seeing, and hearing. Occasionally, it will be expected to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motions many times and push or lift up to 50 lbs., such as boxes of books.
