A Music Teacher teaches music classes in elementary to secondary school, or recreationally. May teach general music or specialize in voice or vocal, piano, violin, guitar, band, conductor, or choir instruction.
Guitar Instructors Wanted - 75% of Lesson Revenue - Minnetonka Area I'm a local guitar instructor currently teaching independently out of my home in the West Metro. I have an established lesson business with roughly 20-30 active students, and I'm beginning to plan the next stage of the business: moving into a dedicated commercial location and building a small team of exceptional instructors. Right now, I'm looking to connect with music instructors and musicians who might be interested in being part of it.
My philosophy is pretty simple:
the instructors are the most important part of a great music school. I want talented, passionate teachers to be paid accordingly. My plan is for instructors to receive approximately 75% of what their students pay for lessons. The remaining 25% stays with the business to cover the location, marketing, administrative support, software, advertising, and continued growth of the school. For example, at my current 60-minute four-pack rate of $180, an instructor would receive $135, or $33.75 per lesson. At that rate, approximately: 20 weekly students = $2,700/month 40 weekly students = $5,400/month 60 weekly students = $8,100/month Those are simply examples based on four lessons per student per month - not guaranteed income. You could teach as much or as little as makes sense for your schedule and based on student demand. This would be an independent contractor position , so there would not be health insurance, retirement benefits, or the traditional benefits of full-time employment. I imagine this being a great fit for musicians who want part-time teaching income alongside performing, other employment, school, or their own projects. If someone eventually wanted to build a much larger student roster, I'd be open to that too. My goal on the business side is to make teaching as easy as possible for the instructors. I want to handle the branding, website, SEO, advertising, lead generation, scheduling systems, administrative infrastructure, and growth of the business so that instructors can primarily focus on being excellent teachers. I'm not trying to build a place where instructors are treated as interchangeable labor while most of the lesson revenue disappears into the business. I want to build something where great instructors can develop their own roster of students, be rewarded when students stick around, and make meaningful money doing something they're genuinely good at. I'm currently looking for a commercial location in the West Metro / Minnetonka area with strong visibility, and I'm beginning to connect with potential instructors now. I'm particularly interested in people who are: Excellent musicians Genuinely enthusiastic about teaching Dependable and professional Patient and comfortable working with different ages and ability levels Safe and responsible working with children Interested in building lasting relationships with students Excited about helping shape a growing music school rather than simply clocking in somewhere A degree in music is great, but I'm much more interested in whether you're an exceptional musician, an exceptional teacher, and someone students will genuinely enjoy learning from. This is still in the building stage, so I'm not asking anyone to quit their job or commit to a schedule tomorrow. I'm looking to start conversations with the right people as I put the location and infrastructure together.
