Española Public Schools is seeking a passionate and experienced Mariachi Music Teacher to establish and develop a new mariachi music program at Española Valley High School.

Position Summary

The Mariachi Music Teacher will provide engaging instruction in mariachi music while developing students' musical skills, cultural understanding, creativity, teamwork, and performance abilities. The teacher will build the program from its early stages, including student recruitment, curriculum development, repertoire selection, rehearsals, performances, and equipment needs.

Essential Responsibilities

Establish and develop the high school mariachi program.

Recruit and engage students with varying levels of musical experience.

Teach mariachi vocal and instrumental techniques.

Provide instruction in music fundamentals, ensemble performance, and mariachi history and traditions.

Select appropriate repertoire and prepare students for performances.

Develop opportunities for concerts, school events, festivals, and community performances.

Maintain and manage program instruments, equipment, music, and materials.

Collaborate with school administration, staff, families, and community partners.

Maintain a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.

Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Valid New Mexico teaching license appropriate for the position or eligibility for licensure.

Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in mariachi music, performance, or instruction.

Strong communication, organizational, classroom management, and student engagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree or coursework in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.

Experience performing, teaching, or directing mariachi music.

Proficiency with multiple mariachi instruments.

Experience developing or establishing a music program.

Bilingual or multilingual skills.
