Hunter College High School is looking for an assistant Strings conductor / assistant music teacher for a part-time semester-to-semester position to work with our Strings ensemble teacher and our student-musicians both in the ensemble and in the classroom; the position is for 200 hours per semester. Hunter College High School is a 7th - 12th grade program governed by the City University of New York, not the New York City Department of Education, and serves gifted students from all five boroughs. We offer a classroom music curriculum which blends theory, history, and composition. Performance ensembles, which work with students of all grade levels, are separate courses. As a part of their schedule, students have rehearsal twice a week which culminates in two annual after-school performances - Winter and Spring concerts - and smaller performances throughout the school year during the course of the school day. An ideal candidate would have their New York State certification, a Master's degree, and would be comfortable leading rehearsals and working with students of diverse skill levels; performance experience on a bowed string instrument is required. Experience with creating and adapting lesson plans, and teaching music theory and history is preferred. Interested candidates should email their resume to dsangerm@hccs.hunter.cuny.edu
