Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Music Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in musical terms, using skills and techniques of music expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of music. Collaborate with colleagues and utilize various curriculum resources to create objective-based lessons aligned to current NYS learning standards.
Actively engage students in the delivery of high-quality instruction.
Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of all students.
Utilize data to inform instructional decisions.
Establish a supportive classroom environment that provides for the social-emotional learning of all students.
Grade student work and maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and grades.
Effectively communicate with parents and students regarding academic progress.
Attend required meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and musical abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
Provide instruction that reflects the diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
Job Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
Must possess or be eligible for New York State Certification in Music
Must possess a strong instrumental background on both primary and secondary instruments
Must possess a strong instrumental background and experience with directing band
Must possess knowledge and understanding of sound instrumental pedagogy for each instrument group
Must possess knowledge and understanding of today's student and offer differentiation based on individual student needs
