Job Description
The Math/Science Teacher for Adjudicated and At-Risk Youth is responsible for delivering high-quality education. This role involves designing and implementing an educational curriculum tailored to adjudicated and at-risk youth's unique needs and circumstances, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, managing classroom dynamics, and collaborating to support students' academic and behavioral success. The ideal candidate possesses a combination of education, experience, skills, and qualities essential for working effectively with youth in challenging circumstances, including a commitment to equity, social justice, and youth empowerment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Design, plan, and deliver instruction using prescribed unit and lesson structures that align with state standards. Develop and update learning resources that are culturally relevant and are committed to the practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students and provide personalized instruction and support. Regularly assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies to ensure academic growth and success. Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and intervention strategies. Implement effective classroom management strategies to foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning for youth. Effectively manage behavior and address behavioral challenges calmly and professionally while promoting positive peer interactions and conflict resolution skills. Coordinate and collaborate with support staff to ensure a secure and controlled classroom setting. Keep accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and academic performance in compliance with county and state regulations. Provide additional class coverage as needed. Perform non-instructional duties as may be required. Other duties as assigned by the Principal of Programs for Adjudicated or At-Risk Youth or the Assistant to the Executive Director for the Pittsburgh Mt. Oliver Intermediate Unit 2.Education and Experience Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field Valid PA teaching certification; Mathematics 7-12, Middle-Level Mathematics 6-9, Biology 7-12, Chemistry 7-12, Earth and Space 7-12, General Science 7-12, or Physics 7-12 certificate with passing of relevant state content area test within twelve months of hire. Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, trauma-informed practices, and evidence-based interventions for at-risk youth. Knowledge of special education laws is preferred, but not required. Evidence of teaching in an interdisciplinary team construct. Knowledge and evidence of the use of instructional technology. Valid Drivers' License.Other qualifications:
Strong oral and written communication Interpersonal skills Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Education Suite High level of organization Decision-making and problem-solving skills Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex organizational structures Proficiency in data analysis and program evaluation Commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in education •Working with adjudicated and at-risk youth may involve additional training, background checks, and an understanding of the unique challenges the youth served face.Job Type:
