Position Summary:
The Elementary Band Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality beginning instrumental music instruction to elementary students. The teacher develops students' musical skills, confidence, creativity, and appreciation for music through engaging, age
- appropriate instruction in a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Teach beginning band students in small-group, and full-class settings. Provide instruction in instrumental technique, music reading, rhythm, ensemble skills, and performance practices. Develop and implement standards-aligned lesson plans and a comprehensive elementary band curriculum. Teach appropriate fundamentals for woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Establish clear classroom expectations and maintain a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment. Assess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback. Prepare students for concerts, and other school or community performances. Select and arrange music appropriate for students' developmental and musical levels. Maintain accurate attendance and student records. Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school administrators. Collaborate with classroom teachers, music colleagues, and school staff to support student success. Encourage participation, perseverance, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Maintain and monitor musical instruments, equipment, music libraries, and classroom supplies. Support recruitment and retention of students in the instrumental music program.
Qualifications:
Experience teaching elementary-aged students preferred. Strong instrumental performance and pedagogical skills. Knowledge of beginning band methods and age-appropriate music instruction. Ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment. Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching beginning band in an elementary or middle school setting. Proficiency on multiple band instruments. Experience conducting student ensembles. Experience organizing concerts, performances, or music events. Familiarity with current music education standards and instructional technology.
Work Environment:
The position requires regular movement throughout the classroom and frequent demonstration of instrumental techniques. The teacher should be comfortable working with groups of young students and managing the sound levels, equipment, and physical demands associated with a beginning band program.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move musical instruments and equipment. Ability to demonstrate appropriate playing techniques. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move around the classroom for extended periods. Ability to hear and evaluate student performance accurately. Success in
