Instructor - Aural Training & Songcrafting MediaTech Institute - Dallas, TX MediaTech Institute is seeking a knowledgeable, inspiring, and student-focused instructor to teach Aural Training and Songcrafting in our Recording Arts curriculum. This role includes teaching a 1-hour Aural Training class followed by a 4-hour Songcrafting class in a format that combines lecture, guided listening, demonstrations, hands-on lab work, writing exercises, and student projects . This is not a 5-hour lecture-based position; the class structure is designed to balance instruction with active student application. Position Summary The ideal candidate is both a skilled musician/songwriter and an engaging educator/audio professional who can help students develop their ears, strengthen their musical instincts, and apply music theory, songwriting, recording basics, and production concepts in practical ways. In Aural Training , students build a more intuitive understanding of what they hear, including identifying elements of the audio spectrum and recognizing frequencies in real-world music and sound environments and using EQ to shape their sound in the world music and film. In Songcrafting , students develop their creative workflow through songwriting while integrating music theory, audio recording fundamentals, and producing skills through hands-on application. Responsibilities Teach Aural Training (1 hour) and Songcrafting (4 hours) according to course outcomes and syllabus Deliver a mix of lecture, demonstration, guided practice, supervised lab time, projects, and assignments Help students develop listening skills, ear training, frequency recognition, and musical analysis Guide students through songwriting, arrangement, lyric development, melody creation, and creative workflow Connect course material to real-world music production and recording practices Foster an engaging, professional, and encouraging classroom environment Track attendance, maintain grades, and provide timely feedback on student work Use Google Classroom and other school systems to post assignments, communicate with students, and maintain records Support student growth through mentorship, coaching, and practical industry insight Qualifications Associate degree or above. Strong background in songwriting, music theory, recording, production, and/or musicianship Ability to teach both conceptual material and hands-on creative application Experience helping students or emerging artists develop songs and musical ideas Strong communication and classroom leadership skills Comfortable balancing direct instruction with lab supervision and guided independent work Proficiency with DAWs, recording workflows, and modern music production tools is preferred Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience is preferred At least 4+ years professional experience in music, songwriting, audio production, or a related field that can be verified.
