Experienced / Professional Music Instructor — Private Lessons St. John Music | San Antonio, TX We're looking for exceptional music teachers. Not simply talented musicians who can teach. Not someone looking for a few temporary hours on the side. We're looking for instructors who have developed a real craft around teaching music — people who understand how to take a student from where they are today to where they want to be, know how to keep students motivated along the way, and have successfully done it again and again. Your primary instrument could be piano, guitar, strings, drums, voice, woodwinds, brass, or something else entirely. Whatever your forte is, if you are exceptional at teaching it, we want to hear from you. The kind of instructor we're looking for The ideal instructor has a clear teaching philosophy and a proven approach to student development. You don't simply walk into each lesson and decide what to work on that day. You know how to evaluate a student, identify where they're going, establish appropriate goals, create a path to reach them, and keep the student excited enough to continue moving forward. You understand that great teaching involves more than transferring musical knowledge. It involves motivation. Encouragement. Accountability. Relationship building. Recognizing when a student needs to be challenged and when they need a win. Finding the next goal, song, performance, skill, ensemble, milestone, or opportunity that gives them something to work toward. And above all, you genuinely care whether your students succeed. Experience matters to us We're particularly interested in instructors who have taught private music lessons for a number of years and can demonstrate a history of successful, long-term students. A music degree, music education degree, pedagogy certification, or similar credential is certainly valuable — but it is not an absolute requirement. We're more interested in what you have actually accomplished as a teacher. If students consistently stay with you for years, progress musically, enjoy coming to lessons, perform confidently, reach meaningful goals, and recommend you to other families, that speaks loudly. We want instructors who have developed a teaching system that works — while still being open-minded enough to continue improving it. Instruments St. John Music teaches students of all ages and skill levels across virtually all instruments. Our greatest student demand generally falls into: Piano Guitar Strings Drums Voice Woodwinds, brass, and other instruments Being able to teach multiple instruments is a significant advantage and can allow us to build a much fuller teaching schedule for you. However, multi-instrument ability is not required. We would much rather hire an exceptional specialist with outstanding teaching ability and student retention than an instructor who technically teaches many instruments but does none of them particularly well. If you're outstanding at what you teach, we are willing to get behind you and help build demand around your specialty. Private instruction is our foundation St. John Music has been built primarily around one-on-one private music instruction , and private lessons remain the core of what we do. We're looking for instructors who excel in that environment and know how to build meaningful, long-term relationships with individual students. At the same time, we're continuing to expand. We currently offer ensembles and are interested in developing additional group opportunities, including daytime classes and other programs. If you also have strong experience developing or teaching group music classes, ensembles, workshops, camps, or other music programs , we'd especially like to hear about it.
