Job Description

Fingerprint Music School is looking for a versatile musician who loves teaching and connecting with kids. We're especially looking for teachers in or near Queen Anne, Magnolia, and Ballard , though we're open to other Seattle and Eastside neighborhoods too. We've offered private, in-home music lessons since 2006. We care about good teaching, real musicality, and genuine human connection. We provide steady students, training in our Fingerprint Method, and a scheduling system that makes the logistics easy. Our approach Every student connects with music differently. Our Fingerprint Method customizes instruction around each student's interests, learning style, and natural strengths. Some learn through sheet music, others by ear, chords, or improvisation, and most use a combination. We also encourage students to choose—or write!—their own material. We're looking for someone who enjoys that kind of creative, flexible teaching. You don't need to be a virtuoso on both piano and guitar, but you should have strong musical fluency, feel comfortable teaching both, and be able to pick up new things quickly. Required qualifications Ability to teach both piano and guitar, at least at a beginner level. A fun, patient personality and an ability to connect with children. Access to a car for traveling to students' homes.
Well-developed relative pitch:
you can figure out chords and melodies by ear. Ability to read music—we don't require exceptional sight-reading. Solid music theory knowledge, including major/minor scales and their chords, pentatonics, seventh chords, modes, and rhythm. Availability for at least 10 half-hour lessons per week, with the option to build toward 40+. Good to have, not required Basic familiarity with bass, drums, or vocals from playing with other musicians. Experience with recording software and live performance equipment. Familiarity with a range of music, including rock/pop, jazz, and classical. What you'll do Travel to students' homes for weekly lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, and general music. Teach mostly kids ages 5-12, along with some teens and adults. Adapt lessons to each student and use your creativity to keep them engaged. Build trusting relationships with students and families. Help students prepare for recitals a couple of times per year. What we offer Pay starting at $53 per teaching hour , plus compensation for each of your students who participates in recitals. Steady students. Our established advertising and word-of-mouth referrals help you build a consistent schedule, with the potential to reach 30-40 students within a few months if that's your goal. Short drives between lessons. You set your maximum drive time, and we arrange lessons close together to keep travel manageable. Control over your schedule. Set your availability and build a teaching schedule that leaves room for your own music and life. Training and support. Every new teacher receives training in our Fingerprint Method, with support as you get started. Simple logistics. We handle billing, and our easy-to-use scheduling system keeps your calendar organized and sends students automatic email and text reminders. A 48-hour cancellation policy to help protect your time. Fun recitals at local music venues where students get to share what they've been working on. How to apply Tell us a bit about yourself, your musical background, and your teaching experience. Please include your résumé and links to audio or video demonstrating your skills on both piano and guitar. You can also apply at fingerprintmusicschool.com/teachwithus. Looking forward to hearing from you!
