JobSummary:
Purdue University Global offers term by term, non-tenured teaching appointments to qualified individuals who arededicated to providing quality educational experiences to students in Associates, Bachelors and Masters degree programs. This positionoffers an excellent opportunity for individuals to work in a professional learning community wherein faculty contribute to and engage ininstructional best practice for adult learners in an innovative, nontraditional university setting. Adjunct faculty have part-timeteaching roles. Adjunct faculty can teach up to 3 courses per term, not to exceed 10 courses per year. This role participates in continuingprofessional development and may also engage in faculty governance and curriculum work as needed. Additional service activities may beassigned to Adjunct faculty. Scholarship is not required. Teaching assignments for Adjunct faculty may fluctuate and are contingent upon theschedule of courses. Adjunct faculty deliver high-quality instruction and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment conduciveto student success. What to expect in this role: Provides a student-centered learning environment whichenables students to attain success. Teaches synchronous or asynchronous seminars (10 week units) as assigned by the School orprogram. Maintains school-determined virtual office hours per week for each class. Ensures timely management and response toelectronic correspondence from students, administrators, and other University officials. Leads message board discussion and engagesstudents in relevant discussions and coursework. Partners with Academic Advisors to address student concerns. Refer students whoself-identify with a potential need for an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to Student Accessibility Services(SAS), and comply with all student accommodations communicated by SAS in writing. Maintains and submits accurate and timely reportsfor student grades/progress. Delivers mid-term and final grades in accordance with the academic calendar. Enforces studentconduct policies as outlined in the University Catalog. Attends University, departmental, and faculty meetings asrequested. Remains current with trends, techniques, and advances in technology that are applicable to theprogram. Additional duties as assigned by the School.
Experience:
Master's degreespecifically in Philosophy (M.A., M.Phil.,etc.) required. Degrees in other disciplines do not meet thisrequirement) 1-3 years' related practical/professional experience and/or training; online, higher education teachingexperience is preferred. What we're looking for: Exceptional computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite,Google applications and Adobe Connect meeting technology. Experience with Brightspace education software is preferred. Excellentcommunication, organizational and time management skills, and with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Adedication to student success and the ability to engage and inspire students in the classroom. Ability to work effectively in aremote environment with minimal supervision. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Capable of buildingstrong working relationships across teams, departments and Schools.
Additional Information:
PurdueUniversity Global will not sponsor employment authorization for this position. Adjunct compensation varies per course based onstudent enrollment, program type and also includes a contribution to a retirement account. A typical adjunct in the School of GeneralEducation can expect to receive $2800 per full 10-week course. Retirement account benefits include an automatic 403(b) company contributionof 3% and a company match up to an additional 4% with participation in an optional 457(b) plan. This is a U.S.-based position. Thisposition is open to candidates who reside and are authorized to work in the United States. A background check will be required foremployment in this position.
