Description The Department of Global Languages and Cultures at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time position with a nine-month appointment beginning fall 2027 at the rank of tenured (tenure review upon hire) advanced Associate Professor or Professor in the area of global Catholicism. Applicants will be considered for appointment as the Dolores '85 and Mark Kelly '83 Endowed Chair in Religious Studies with a focus on global Catholicism We welcome applications from scholars of Catholicism trained in Religious Studies or a closely related discipline whose research explores the global circulation of Catholicism. We are especially interested in scholars whose research brings Catholicism into conversation with cross-cultural, interreligious or transnational issues in the academic study of religion. The time period and geographic focus of this scholarship are open, with a preference given for candidates whose research encompasses the Global South. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses that contribute to the Religious Studies minor, as well as at least one course in one of the department's other degrees or programs, including but not limited to Africana Studies, Classics, Jewish Studies, Global Studies, and/or Hispanic Studies. The teaching load is typically two courses per semester. The Department of Global Languages and Cultures offers degrees/programs in Global Studies, modern languages and Classics, and graduate degrees in Hispanic Studies, in addition to offering undergraduate minors in Religious Studies, Africana Studies, and Jewish Studies. Qualifications Applicants must hold a PhD in Religious Studies or closely related field. Applicants at the rank of Professor must demonstrate a strong, active research program in the area of global Catholicism commensurate with the expectations of an R1 institution. In addition to strong teaching and research, the successful applicant will show evidence of experience in program development, collaborative work, outreach in and beyond the academy, and/or building research initiatives. Applicants at the rank of advanced Associate Professor may be considered if the record demonstrates research, teaching, and service commensurable with a full professorship at an R1 institution.
