Empower Community School Position Overview Empower Schools of Alabama is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and student-centered Elementary Physical Education (PE) Teacher who is committed to developing the whole child. The PE Teacher will design and deliver engaging, standards-based physical education instruction that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits. The ideal candidate believes that all students can learn and thrive, and is dedicated to supporting both the academic and social-emotional development of every scholar. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Student Engagement Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons daily Teach fundamental motor skills, movement patterns, and physical fitness concepts Promote healthy lifestyles, including fitness, nutrition awareness, and wellness habits Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with varying abilities Create a safe, inclusive, and structured environment that maximizes student participation Incorporate cooperative learning, games, and activities that build teamwork and sportsmanship Student Development & Support Foster students' social-emotional growth, including self-discipline, perseverance, and collaboration Reinforce positive behavior through PBIS and school-wide expectations Ensure student safety during all physical activities and transitions Monitor and assess student progress in physical fitness and skill development Classroom Culture & Management Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and respectful classroom environment Implement PBIS and restorative practices to support student behavior and development Set high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement Create a classroom culture where all students feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn Actively support students' social and emotional learning (SEL) through intentional practices and relationship-building Assessment & Data Use Track and assess student performance using appropriate tools and fitness benchmarks Use data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes Provide feedback to students and families on progress and growth Relationships & Collaboration Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and wellness Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional staff, and leadership Engage families and community partners to promote health and wellness initiatives Participate in Empower's House System, including events, competitions, and celebrations Support school-wide events, family engagement opportunities, and extracurricular activities Professional Responsibilities Attend and actively participate in all required professional development, staff meetings, and coaching sessions Engage in continuous improvement through feedback, reflection, and professional learning Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, and documentation Uphold all school policies, procedures, and professional standards Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field (required) Valid Alabama teaching certification (or eligibility for certification) Experience teaching elementary students preferred Knowledge of age-appropriate physical development and PE standards CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Core Competencies Ability to create and teach engaging lessons daily that drive student achievement Strong relationship-building skills with students, staff, and families Commitment to equity and an unwavering belief in student potential Ability to support and respond to students' social and emotional needs Growth mindset and willingness to receive and implement feedback Strong communication and collaboration skills High level of professionalism, accountability, and integrity Work Environment & Expectations Full-time position following the school calendar May require extended hours for planning, events, and professional development Maintain an active presence in the classroom, including the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom while students are present to monitor, support, and engage learners Ability to supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and outdoor areas Commitment to the mission and vision of Empower Community School Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications Comprehensive benefits package (health, retirement, etc.) Professional development and leadership growth opportunities
