Job Description

We are looking for a part time Physical Education teacher to teach four of our P.E. classes for grades 2-5. Each class meets twice per week. Additionally, this position would include before-school and lunch supervision duties and supervision of a student study hall with a small group of students. Physical Education Teacher (50%) The successful candidate will:
  • be dedicated to inspiring and engaging our children to challenge themselves and excel toward their potential
  • understand the Physical Education Standards and be able to create lesson plans that meet them
  • have experience working with students (K-8 preferred)
  • hold a teaching credential
  • be comfortable teaching outdoors
Hours:
7:30am-12:00pm, Monday-Friday ( 22.5 hours per week) If the candidate is interested, an additional daily shift is available between 3:30-6:00pm daily for after-school care.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
Under supervision of the Head of School, plans and implements activities for children in accordance with the curricula and goals that are designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed to meet the goals and philosophy of Hilldale School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities are not listed by importance or priority. Other duties may be assigned as desired by the management. ​As a teacher of an outstanding private school, your duties include: ​Curriculum
  • ​Deliver the curriculum fully and completely as outlined in the curriculum guide.
  • Ensure that all standards are met at the designated level.
  • Create and update your scope and sequence based on the approved school curriculum.
  • Create written goals and rubrics for student use.
  • Grade students for actual level of mastery for each standard, not using a percentage scale, not grading practice, and not allowing for extra credit.
  • Teach positive ethical values which foster responsibility, positivity, self-discipline, leadership, perseverance, and life-long learning.
  • Challenge students to do their best and encourage them to "Rise to the Challenge."
  • Instill learning and study skills.
  • Develop activities which drive creativity and engagement.
  • Encourage an understanding of our environment and the need for personal stewardship of environmental resources; promote environmentally friendly actions on the school campus.
  • Actively share in the development of a world-class educational experience, including such things as researching and sharing best practices from around the world; seek relevant articles and activities to enhance your subject and to inspire your students.

  • Differentiate the material to meet the needs and challenge all of your students.
  • Keep all plans up to date and ready for inspection 1 week prior to enactment. Campus and Classroom Environment
  • ​Keep the safety and education of your students uppermost in your mind and actions.
  • Keep the campus and your areas safe, organized, and neat.
  • Report any problems concerning maintenance or technology using the provided portals.
  • Maintain order and discipline in the "classroom" as well as on campus at large.
  • Encourage the development of self-regulation skills.
  • Keep parents and administrators informed regarding students who exhibit behavioral issues; engage with these students to overcome the identified issues.
  • Establish positive and consistent communication with parents, including providing regular newsletters and individualized feedback. ​General
  • ​Teach or coach one after-school activity, as approved by the principal (optional).
  • Supervise pick-up and drop-off, as requested by the administration.
  • Supervise lunch and recess, as directed by the administration.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings (optional).
  • Attend all required school functions, including functions outside of normal school hours (as applicable).
  • Document and track loss or damage of all equipment.
  • Prepare and lead scheduled parent-teacher conferences, using notes and evidence.
  • Complete all progress reports, report cards, and academic analyses in a timely manner.
  • Complete any documentation as required by the administration. ​Personal
  • ​Set an example in conduct, manner, interpersonal problem-solving, and general decorum.
  • Maintain positivity and professionalism in interpersonal relationships.
  • Be punctual, arriving at least 20 minutes before school begins.
  • Dress appropriately and professionally.
  • Collaborate with co-teachers and administrators on best practices.
  • Make progress on administration-directed goals.
  • Bring all major concerns and suggestions to the administration prior to discussing with colleagues or parents.
Support the ultimate decision of the administration.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily an office/classroom position. May require significant degree of intermittent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and stretching. May require lifting of up to 20 lbs.

Pay:
$38,500.00 - $45,000.00 per year
