Responsibilities:
Newtown Middle School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Physical Education teacher for Grades 7 and 8. Successful candidates should be committed to academic excellence and fostering a positive, inclusive middle school culture.
Responsibilities include the following:
Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Deliver high quality instruction in secondary physical education. Contribute to interdisciplinary team goals and collaborate in shared planning, assessment development, and student support initiatives. Maintain an organized, positive, and structured classroom environment that supports growth and student well-being. Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. Perform additional professional responsibilities consistent with district expectations.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have: Current State Certification, PK-12 (044) Physical Education and PK-12 (043) Health Commitment to contributing to a high-performing district culture focused on both physical education excellence and student growth. Deep understanding of adolescent development and its impact on curriculum, instruction, and classroom culture. Technology expertise to enhance student understanding and engagement. Evidence of expertise in working with children in a heterogeneous classroom setting and ability to differentiate instruction including the use of small group instruction strategically. Effective classroom management skills and knowledge of restorative practices that promote high expectations and positive relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Understanding the 4 major areas of the components of fitness and the state fitness assessments.
