Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Teacher Full-Time | $40-$65 per hour DOE Position Overview Career Links is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Teacher to provide specialized physical education services to students with disabilities. The DAPE Teacher is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring individualized physical education programs that support students' physical, motor, social, and recreational development. This role works collaboratively with special education staff, related service providers, families, and general education teachers to ensure students receive meaningful access to physical education opportunities that align with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Essential Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized adapted physical education programs in accordance with student IEPs and state and federal special education regulations. Conduct assessments of motor skills, physical abilities, and adaptive needs to support instructional planning and special education evaluations. Provide engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction in motor development, physical fitness, sports, recreation, and movement activities. Adapt curriculum, equipment, environments, and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Collaborate with special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, and other educational team members. Provide both direct and consultative services in adapted and inclusive physical education settings. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation related to IEP goals and objectives. Participate in IEP meetings, evaluation planning, and multidisciplinary team discussions. Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and educational programming. Promote inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities in school and community-based physical activities. Support the development and implementation of unified programming throughout the district. Provide training and consultation to physical education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff regarding adaptive strategies and best practices. Maintain compliance with all district, state, and federal requirements. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Minnesota licensure or certification in Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE). Eligibility for an Out of Field Permission (OFP) authorization. Ability to meet Minnesota Tier 1 or Tier 2 Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) requirements. Licensure Requirements Valid Minnesota Teaching License. Appropriate Minnesota licensure for Developmental Adapted Physical Education or eligibility to obtain required licensure. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Strong understanding of adapted physical education principles and instructional strategies.
