Position Overview The Physical Education Teacher supports the mission of Preston High School by promoting physical wellness, confidence, leadership, and teamwork in young women. The teacher designs and implements a dynamic, standards-based curriculum that fosters lifelong fitness habits while encouraging resilience, sportsmanship, and self-discipline within a faith-centered environment. Essential Responsibilities InstructionCurriculum Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with New York State Learning Standards for Physical Education. Provide instruction in team sports, individual activities, fitness training, strength and conditioning, and wellness education. Promote lifelong health, personal goal-setting, and positive body image. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Integrate leadership development and collaboration into physical activities. Student GrowthAssessment Assess student performance through skill evaluations, fitness benchmarks, and participation. Maintain accurate attendance and grading records. Provide constructive feedback and communicate student progress with families when needed. Encourage students to take ownership of their physical health and wellness goals. Catholic IdentityMission Integration Model Gospel values and uphold the mission of Preston High School. Foster a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for young women. Support school liturgies, retreats, and mission-driven activities. Demonstrate sensitivity to the developmental needs of adolescent girls within a Catholic school setting. SafetyCompliance Maintain a safe and orderly gymnasium and activity space. Enforce proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols. Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Follow NYC and NYS health, safety, and child protection regulations. Professional Responsibilities Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. Collaborate with administration, faculty, and athletic staff. Serve as a moderator, coach, or support extracurricular programs as needed. Maintain professional communication with students, families, and colleagues. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field (Master's preferred). Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Physical Education (preferred). CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required). Experience in teaching at the high school level preferred. Commitment to Catholic education and the mission of Preston High School.
