Job Description

This is a 1099 Contractor Position. Adaptive Physical Education Teacher -
Contracted Part Time Position Summary:
The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher utilizes current strategies and theories to plan, organize and implement structured Adapted Physical Education lessons to students with disabilities, for optimum performance and ability. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. 1. Assessing and identifying the student's individual education needs related to their adaptive physical education needs. 2. Providing access to the student's physical education curriculum. 3. Implements developed curricula in the areas of flexibility, balance, strength, cardiovascular conditioning and aquatics. 4. Responsible for development of IEP current performance and objectives. Trains (class and/or P.E.) teachers to implement curricula and goals adapted as needed for in-person environments. 5. Works/consults with the occupational and physical therapists as needed. 6. Encourages social skills and participation with disabled and non-disabled peers. 7. Provides direct and consultative APE services to Intellectually Disabled students, students with Autism, TBI, Orthopedic Impairments, OHI, and other disabilities not listed, grades K-12. 8. Conducts assessments, generates IEP goals/objectives. 9. Administer and/or supports state and local standardized testing processes and policies. 10. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with school Principals and staff, central office administrators and staff, parents, students, care providers, volunteers and external customers. 11. Assigns and works with APE contact person from each school. 12. Completes APE in-service training with all teachers/teams as requested. 13. Provides direct service during assigned gym times. 14. When in an in-person teaching environment, responsible for wiping down surfaces daily to uphold sanitation standards as required for safe school environment. 15. Effectively communicates with students, parents and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication. 16. Attends virtual meetings, in-person ADPE meetings, teacher training workshops and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competence. 17. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware. 18. Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed. 19. Participates in other job-related duties and activities related to the position, as assigned. Position Expectations 1. Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities as it relates to student data and lesson plans. 2. Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members to include maintaining flexibility and adapt as needed to learning environments. 3. Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals as it relates to students with adaptive physical education needs. 4. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. 5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives in order to meet the needs of all students. 6. Participate as an active member with other faculty and staff. 7. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and District policy. 8. Maintain and improve professional competence. 9. Communicate effectively both written and orally. Position Requirements Education and Training An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Licenses and Certifications Must possess or be able to acquire by time of appointment to the position, an Adaptive Physical Education teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education. Certified in relevant subject area.
