Reporting to the Department Chair for General Education and Social Sciences, part-time faculty are assigned to course sections based on their qualifications, interest, performance, and course section availability. This is a hybrid (St. Petersburg, FL) and remote online part-time faculty position. Instructional faculty at Excelsior University teach online using pre-built course shells with common readings, activities, and assignments across all sections. Hybrid courses in St. Petersburg include some evening hours during the work week.

Faculty Duties and Responsibilities:

Implementing courses as designed by the University. Bringing their own knowledge and expertise to bear on the subject matter. Engaging regularly and substantively with students via email, announcements, and online discussion boards. Providing timely, high-quality feedback on student work. Holding regular virtual office hours. Keeping the department chair apprised of any student or course issues. Following University policies. Completing University-required training and attending required pre-term meetings.

Qualifications:

A master's degree or PhD in physics or a master's degree or higher in a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in physics. Experience teaching physics in an asynchronous online environment. Experience with the Canvas learning management system preferred. A student-centered teaching approach. A commitment to supporting the success of all students, including those underserved by traditional higher education. The position is compensated at a flat rate of $1,000 per credit hour per course, with low-enrollment courses paid at a directed study rate; the salary range stated reflects the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
