Job Description

Overview Westminster Preschool has an exciting opportunity for a new, full-time director to begin immediately! Candidates must have experience in early childhood education and must meet State requirements for education and experience to teach. Candidates must be committed to serving our preschool families in a loving and supportive manner. Strong communication and leadership skills as well as the ability to function as a team player are also of utmost importance. Westminster Preschool operates in a modern, renovated facility and we have an excellent teaching staff. There are about 45 children in the program and 11 full- and part-time teachers and staff. Starting salary is about $53k (depending on education and experience), with paid health insurance, retirement plan, PTO plan, disability insurance, 403(b) plan, 125 Cafeteria plan and other benefits. Requirements:
  • BS or higher in early childhood education or related field or equivalent experience in a preschool program
  • Understanding of the Iowa Department of Human Services licensing requirements
  • Understanding of the State-funding policies and procedures for our four-year-old program
  • Ability to understand and manage the complexities of a church-based preschool program, recognizing that the preschool is an outreach program of the church
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents, children, teachers and church staff
  • Excellent communication skills
Essential Administrative Duties:
  • Comply with State licensing requirements and complete appropriate paperwork
  • Monitor child files for compliance with licensing standards and immunizations. Notify parent of any deficiencies and timeframe for compliance
  • Prepare preschool files for annual licensing audit
  • Maintain the Preschool Handbook of preschool-specific policies and procedures
  • Maintain the Preschool Staff Handbook of teacher policies and procedures
  • Maintain the emergency procedure handbook and conduct yearly training with staff
  • Participate in professional development workshops, classes, and organizations
  • Communicate with parents via email, newsletters, phone calls, formal and informal meetings and social media
  • Solicit feedback from parents to improve quality of the program
  • Answer phone calls and emails in a timely manner
  • Periodically to ensure we are providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Authorize staff purchases and staff working hours
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Executive Pastor to communicate relevant information regarding the preschool program, staff, enrollment, etc.
  • Share all communications to parents and teachers with Executive Pastor
  • Act as a liaison between the preschool and other church ministries and staff, attending weekly church all-staff meetings; receive assistance from the Executive Pastor and preschool committee
  • Supervise registration and enrollment
  • Maintain and comply with IQ4K program requirements.
Supervision/Personnel:
  • Notify staff of professional development opportunities
  • Monitor employee files for compliance with licensing standards. Notify employee of deficiencies and timeframe for compliance
  • Make sure teachers are following the All-Employee Handbook policies and procedures
  • Oversee record-keeping by individual teachers including medical, accident reports, permission slips and registrations
  • Maintain adequate teacher/student ratios, including filling in from time-to-time
  • If need arises, hire/fire/discipline staff; with assistance from Executive Pastor
  • Lead monthly teacher staff meetings
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for team building and staff collaboration
  • Work with each staff member to develop a professional development plan
Marketing and Development:
  • Promote the positive image of the preschool
  • Provide church and community outreach by publicizing and marketing the preschool program
  • Conduct tours for the purpose of enrollment
  • Implement strategies to recruit and maintain enrollment
Financial/Budget:
  • Work with church's Accountant to make sure tuition payments are made in a timely manner
  • Follow-up with phone call reminders to parents who are delinquent in tuition payment
  • Maintain staff scheduling to maintain ratios and balance tuition and expense.

Executive Pastor Facility and Safety:
  • Regularly inspect equipment and play areas to ensure safety and cleanliness, maintain monthly playground log for licensing
