The ideal candidate is a strong leader who genuinely enjoys working with children, families, and educators and understands the importance of maintaining a safe, nurturing, professional, and well-organized environment. The Director will oversee staff, classroom operations, licensing compliance, enrollment, parent communication, scheduling, and overall center operations while working closely with ownership/ administrative team.
Desired skills and experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or in related field. 3-5 years of Director experience in a licensed child care facility (Starting $22 per hour) 3-5 Years of Assistant Director experience in a licensed child care facility (Starting $19 per hour) Must be Teacher qualified under DCYF Rule 3 Standards. Official transcripts of all post-secondary work required. Strong background in state licensing regulations, staffing, enrollment and budget management Demonstrated highly effective organizational, time management, and multitasking skills Demonstrated responsibilities in overseeing all classroom operations, including human resources, quality assurance and facility operations A proven track record in hiring, developing, and retaining staff Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with families, employees, licensing representatives, and management. Must be dependable, professional, approachable, and able to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to handle sensitive situations calmly and professionally. Comfortable using child care management software and general computer applications. Must be willing and able to provide classroom support when necessary. Leadership & Center Operations Oversee the daily operation of the child care center and ensure classrooms run safely and efficiently. Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and support to teachers and administrative staff. Maintain a positive, professional, respectful, and team-oriented workplace culture. Conduct regular classroom observations and follow up with teachers regarding expectations and areas for improvement. Ensure center policies, procedures, and operational standards are consistently followed. Communicate important operational, staffing, licensing, and parent-related matters to ownership/administration. Provide classroom and operational support to help maintain required staffing ratios as needed and ensure compliance with licensing requirements. Assist in resolving day-to-day operational concerns promptly and professionally. Licensing & Compliance Maintain compliance with applicable Minnesota child care licensing requirements and center policies. Ensure required staff and child records are complete, accurate, organized, and current. Monitor classroom ratios, group sizes, supervision, health and safety practices, and other licensing requirements. Prepare for licensing visits, inspections, and required documentation. Ensure required postings, forms, training records, certifications, and documentation are maintained. Address compliance concerns immediately and communicate significant issues to ownership. Ensure incident, accident, medication, and other required documentation is properly completed and maintained. Staff Management Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and retaining qualified employees. Create and manage staff schedules while maintaining appropriate classroom coverage. Review and coordinate staff time-off requests and schedule changes. Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, performance, professionalism, and adherence to center policies. Conduct staff meetings, coaching sessions, performance evaluations, and corrective-action discussions as appropriate. Ensure staff complete required training and maintain required certifications. Maintain accurate staff information in Brightwheel and other center systems, including appropriate sign-in PINs and access codes. Maintain and update staff email and communication lists. Step into classrooms when necessary to support staffing needs and maintain required ratios. Enrollment & Family Communication Build positive and professional relationships with current and prospective families. Respond promptly and professionally to parent questions, concerns, and requests. Conduct center tours for prospective families and provide information regarding programs and enrollment. Follow up with prospective families after tours when appropriate. Oversee the enrollment and intake process for new children. Coordinate children's classroom transitions and communicate transition plans with teachers and families. Maintain accurate enrollment records, classroom rosters, waiting lists, and family information. Help maintain strong enrollment and identify upcoming classroom openings. Address parent concerns professionally and escalate significant matters to ownership when necessary. Administrative & Billing Oversight Maintain organized and accurate administrative records. Oversee or assist with creating billing plans for newly enrolled families. Update and adjust billing plans when schedules, tuition rates, discounts, enrollment, or other circumstances change. Monitor past-due tuition and missing payments and professionally follow up with families as needed. Assist with attendance records and other documentation required for tuition assistance or child care assistance programs when applicable. Review administrative information for accuracy and communicate discrepancies promptly. Maintain confidentiality of child, family, employee, and business information. Program & Classroom Support Work with teachers to maintain high-quality, developmentally appropriate classroom environments. Support curriculum implementation and age-appropriate learning experiences. Ensure classrooms are clean, organized, welcoming, and properly supplied. Help coordinate special programs, school events, celebrations, and family activities. Provide classroom and operational support as needed to maintain required staffing ratios and licensing compliance.
