The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Center Director in ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center's care.
Under the direction of the Center Director, the Assistant Director collaborates with staff to ensure that curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered, and that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately.
This position reports to the De Colores Child Development Center, LLC Director. Key Responsibilities
- Assume the duties of the Center Director and teachers as needed during their absence.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure adherence to quality standards in accordance with center guidelines and state and local requirements; implement improvements where needed.
- Maintain communication with families and the community through appropriate outreach activities.
- Follow all center policies and state regulations.
- Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Teach, supervise, and scaffold all staff when needed, including training new staff.
- Care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and after-schoolers.
- Manage the food program and teacher schedules and maintain access to essential information needed to communicate with parents and state and local authorities.
- Have the authority to direct the childcare center in compliance with TDFPS Minimum Standards and be the responsible party when in charge.
- Apply knowledge of good business practices, administration, and child development essential to managing the childcare center.
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the center by balancing business concerns with what is best for children, and by providing leadership and direction to the caregivers responsible for safe and healthy care.
- Maintain all Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards both during and after completion of accreditation.
- Be on time and work when scheduled. Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
- High energy.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A strong understanding of child development
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. - Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must clear a full background check.
- Must pass a health screening.
- At least 2 years of direct professional experience in an early childhood setting. Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification paths: - An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood and at least 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare center; OR
- 60 college credit hours, including nine credit hours in child development and six credit hours in management, and at least 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare center; OR
- A Child Care Credential Certificate with TDFPS, including at least 15 credit hours in child development and three credit hours in management, and at least 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare center; OR
- A CDA (Child Development Associate) with six credit hours in management and at least 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare center; OR
- Nine credit hours in child development and nine credit hours in management, and at least 3 years of experience in a licensed childcare center. Benefits
