Job Description

The Executive Director is the senior leadership position at MYC & is a part time position (.2-.4 FTE). This is a newly created role developed in response to the organization's growth, the imminent transition of long-tenured board leadership, and the strategic priority of building a sustainable, autonomous, independently governed nonprofit service for the next generation. The Executive Director is responsible for strategic organization, fundraising and development, community partnerships, financial stewardship, and staff leadership. The Executive Director works in close partnership with the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Managing Director to advance MYC's mission and ensure the organization's long-term health & service to the community.. The Executive Director does not oversee daily programming. That responsibility belongs to the Managing Director. The Executive Director's focus is on the organizational systems, funding infrastructure, and external relationships that make programming possible and sustainable. McFarland Youth Center | Executive Director Position Description | March 2026McFarland Youth Center Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Implement and promote the MYC strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Directors. Identify opportunities to expand organizational capacity, programming access, and community involvement. Serve as the public face of MYC with funders, local village & school (government) partners, county leaders, (school leadership), and community stakeholders. Report regularly to the Board of Directors on organizational progress, financial health, and strategic priorities. Meets regularly with the Executive Board Members Ensure MYC's mission, values, and brand are reflected consistently across all organizational activities & events. Fundraising and Development Lead & execute all fundraising strategies and execution including individual donor cultivation, corporate sponsorships, and community fundraising events. Develop and maintain a comprehensive grant calendar; write or oversee the preparation of grant applications and reports. Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors, local, regional & state foundations & corporate levels. Build a diversified, sustainable revenue model that reduces organizational dependence on any single funding source. Work toward securing multi-year funding commitments from key municipal and institutional partners. Financial Oversight Manage MYC's annual operating budget in partnership with the Board Treasurer. Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and compliance with applicable nonprofit regulations. Work with contracted bookkeeping or administrative support to maintain organized and audit- ready financial records. Develop and monitor a reserve fund strategy to protect organizational stability. Provide clear, accessible financial summaries to the full board on a monthly basis. Community and Government Relations Maintain a collaborative & productive relationship with the Village of McFarland, McFarland School District, Dane County & service organizations Represent MYC in community planning processes, community events, and public forums. Promote and sustain partnerships with local businesses, faith communities, service organizations, and youth-serving agencies. Identify and pursue collaborative funding opportunities with local, regional and county-level partners. McFarland Youth Center | Executive Director Position Description | March 2026McFarland Youth Center Organizational Leadership Directly supervise the Managing Director, providing regular support, clear expectations, and annual performance reviews. Ensure HR compliance, including staff onboarding documentation, required training, and employment policies. Support board development efforts in partnership with the Governance and Board Development Committee.. Contribute to succession planning and institutional continuity efforts. Oversee or coordinate contracted administrative support functions as applicable. Qualifications Required Prefer a minimum two years of experience in nonprofit leadership, fund development, program management, or a related field. Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, or grant development. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Experience managing budgets and providing financial oversight in a nonprofit or organizational context. Genuine commitment to positive youth development and inclusive, community-based programming. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a volunteer board of directors. Preferred Familiarity with the Dane County nonprofit funding landscape, including local foundations and government grant programs. Experience working with or reporting to a volunteer board of directors. Knowledge of middle school youth development frameworks, including social-emotional learning, developmental assets, disability practices, and/or trauma-informed care. Existing relationships with local funders, school districts, or municipal government partners. Experience navigating organizational transitions or nonprofit restructuring. MYC is reorganizing & rebuilding its board of directors, clarifying governance roles, and laying the foundation for long-term sustainability. The Executive Director is a central part of that strategy. The Executive Director will join an organization with a well-established mission, a deeply engaged community, consistent youth attendance, and strong programmatic roots. MYC's challenges are structural and administrative, not programmatic. The incoming Executive Director will have the opportunity to help shape and stabilize the next chapter of MYC's history.

Board of Directors (supervised by the Executive Committee) Directly supervises: Managing Director Indirectly supports: Assistant Directors, contracted administrative staff Compensation and Position Details Compensation Salary is commensurate with experience and will be determined in alignment with secured multi-year funding commitments. MYC is committed to offering competitive nonprofit compensation within its budget constraints. Location McFarland, Wisconsin. Position requires regular in-person presence at the MYC facility and in the Anticipated Timeline Position posted: September 2026 Anticipated start date: January 2027
