Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Head Teacher is responsible for the health and safety of children in the child development center, the implementation of a developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant curriculum, and the assessment of children and the classroom environment. In addition, the Head Teacher is responsible for developing strong relationships with parents, mentoring the Teachers and Assistant Teachers, and fully complying with Title 22, Title 5, and the Child Care Food Program requirements. The Head Teacher also serves as the alternate to the Site Supervisor. Essential Position Responsibilities Maintain a clean, well-organized, attractive and safe indoor and outdoor environment designed to meet the developmental needs of children. Ensure constant supervision of children in the environment. Abide by State licensing regulations governing health and safety in child care settings. Communicate health and safety issues to the Site Supervisor in a timely manner. Responsible for the facility's opening or closing procedures. Other responsibilities as assigned. Develop and implement a daily lesson plan based on observations and knowledge of individual children and groups of children. Employ industry best practices. Follow the principles of Child Lane's curricular approach, ensuring activities are appropriate for the developmental levels of the children. Promote exploration, creativity, problem solving and pro-social behavior in every child. Model a relationship-based approach to learning. Maintain, update, and submit an annual inventory of classroom equipment. Other responsibilities as assigned. Complete child assessments using the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP). Prepare detailed supporting documentation and generate reports according to set guidelines and timelines. Conduct parent conferences to share results of the assessment process and set individualized goals for each child. Complete the classroom assessment using the Environment Rating Scale. Set goals for program improvement based on findings. Other responsibilities as assigned. Treat children with the utmost respect and appreciation, ensuring all children feel supported, encouraged, and nurtured. Make daily contact with parents to inform them of their child's progress and to model for children positive adult interactions. Mentor Teachers and Assistant Teachers, providing encouragement and coaching when necessary and guidance on curriculum and environment. Maintain a warm and welcoming classroom environment conducive for optimal learning and growing. Participate in meetings, workshops, and special events as necessary. Education, Permit and/or Experience Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required. Teacher Permit required. Three units in Infant/Toddler Care. Two years of paid work experience in an ECE environment. Knowledge of and experience with DRDPs and Environmental Rating Scale. Pediatric CPR/First Aid Training Certificate. Child Abuse & Neglect Mandated Reporter Training. Health Clearance, including TB screen and required vaccinations. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not perform any supervisory responsibilities. Physical Requirements Must possess mobility to work in a classroom and play yard settings and to use standard office equipment including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry children weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
