JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Definition Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of the Continuing Education Department, support all activities related to the children's classroom environment for the childcare services component of the Continuing Education department. This includes supervising and guiding children ages 0-12 years in appropriate social, emotional, physical, creative and cognitive activities. For school aged children, this includes assistance with homework. Continuing Education Childcare Assistants should be able to communicate effectively with children, staff, students, faculty, and parents.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Continuing Education Department provides student support services through an unlicensed no-cost childcare service for various noncredit students.
Essential Functions & Qualifications Required:
Childcare Assistant I:
Will work independently to care for children attending childcare services. Implement interactive activities, engage children with child development skills, and assist school-aged children with homework. Must have at least 9 months of related work experience in childcare services. •
Childcare Assistant II:
Will work independently to care for children attending childcare services. Develop and implement interactive and educational activities that promote learning, engage children with child development skills, and assist school-aged children with homework. Coordinate with the supervisor on purchasing supplies, supply distribution, and routine cleaning. Must have at least one year of related work experience in childcare services. • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Continuing Education students • Perform other related duties as required.
Desirable:
• Experience working with students and their families, faculty, and staff in an educational setting • Bilingual in English and Spanish Additional Information This is a short-term/temporary position that will require evening hours. Placement as Childcare Assistant I, and II, will be based on experience in the Continuing Education department and/or other comparable work experience.
