The Sonoma County Family YMCA is seeking a Childcare Assistant Director to help lead our school-age childcare program and support children as they develop socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. This is more than a childcare position. It's an opportunity to inspire young people, support families, and be part of an organization dedicated to strengthening our community every day. What You'll Do As the Childcare Assistant Director, you'll work closely with the Site Director to ensure a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for children. Key Responsibilities Assist in the daily leadership and operation of the childcare program Supervise the program in the Director's absence Plan and lead fun, creative, age-appropriate activities Support children's academic success through homework help and enrichment opportunities Create engaging monthly themes and special events Assist with attendance, enrollment, and administrative duties Provide leadership and support to program staff Foster positive relationships with children, families, and team members Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old Minimum six months of experience working with children in a classroom, childcare, camp, or similar setting Ability to lead activities, supervise children, and work collaboratively as part of a team Successful DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance, including sex offender screening Preferred Qualifications 12 or more college units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Physical Education, or related Social Science coursework Previous experience in youth development, after-school programs, recreation, or childcare leadership The Ideal Candidate You are: Organized and dependable Comfortable leading groups of children and staff Passionate about youth development A strong communicator and team player Committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all
