Job Description

Landmark Preschool of Westport, CT is seeking a Head Teacher for our Two's classroom. A strong candidate will have a keen focus on interacting with and motivating students to learn and will provide a good foundation for the next grade level. In this role you will create a flexible, fun educational program and classroom environment, and will develop strong relationships with faculty, staff and parents. Responsibilities (include but not limited to): Teach age-appropriate lessons, utilizing a course of study developed and approved by Landmark Preschool Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and clearly communicate these objectives to students Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student Create an effective environment for learning utilizing the tools and resources in the classroom and building Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom Work with the student support team to resolve a student's behavioral and/or academic problem Plan and supervise purposeful assignments and responsibilities for the assistant teacher(s) Evaluate assistant teacher's performance in accordance with policies and procedures Observe and evaluate students' academic progress and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day Perform duties including supervising lunch and rest time and supervising student arrival and dismissal Attend faculty/staff meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Support the appropriate use of technology such as computers, SmartBoard and audiovisual aids Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities Participate in/attend events outside of the regular academic day Create an encouraging atmosphere in which all students support each other Requirements Bachelor's degree in education or related subject Teaching certification desired 3+ years of classroom teaching experience Strong verbal and written communication skills Additional Information This is a 10-month faculty position Contracted dates for the 2025-2026 academic year are August 25, 2026 - June 11, 2027 Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am-3:00pm Interested candidates should send their resume to Preschool Director, Siobhan Powers at spowers@landmarkpreschool.org Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
